Cucumbers are fast, fun and very productive — a few plants can keep your kitchen supplied all season. They grow well on a sunny balcony with a small trellis.
Sow in spring (February–April) for a summer harvest. Seeds germinate quickly, in 5–10 days.
Cucumbers love to climb. Provide a trellis or netting to save space and keep the fruit clean and straight.
Cucumbers are thirsty — water regularly and deeply, especially in hot weather. Dry spells make the fruit bitter.
Pick in 50–70 days, while the fruit is firm and medium-sized. Frequent picking encourages more cucumbers.
