Passion Fruit F1 Seeds

Passion Fruit F1 (Passiflora edulis), known in Arabic as باشن فروت and also called the passion flower (زهرة الآلام), is a tendril-climbing perennial vine prized for its aromatic, tangy-sweet pulp and jewel-like seeds. The wrinkled purple or yellow fruit is wonderful spooned fresh, blended into juices and sorbets, or draped over a wall as an ornamental climber.

Planting

Soak the seeds in tepid water for about 24 hours to soften the hard coat, then sow in light peat moss or a peat-and-sand mix. Keep covered at a steady 25 C until seedlings emerge; fresh seed sprouts faster than old. Choose a full-sun spot and space plants roughly 1.8-3 m apart, with about 3-4.5 m between rows on a trellis. In Egypt sow in early-to-mid spring (February-April) once temperatures pass 18 C and frost has gone.

Fertilizing

Feed with a high-potassium NPK such as 8-3-9 on a rising schedule as the vine matures. In a home garden, a high-potassium liquid feed every 4-6 weeks through the growing season (about March to October) works well, adding micronutrients like magnesium and iron. Stop feeding during winter dormancy.

Care

Train the vine onto a trellis, fence or arbour with horizontal wires. Apply small, frequent irrigation to keep soil moist but never waterlogged; buds drop if it dries out. Growth peaks at 18-30 C, so give afternoon shade and mulch when summer spells climb above 32 C. Watch for caterpillars, spider mites and aphids. Harvest about 70-75 days after flowering, when ripe fruit drops and the skin wrinkles.
